Research and your data

Last updated: 30 September 2026

What is shared, if you opt in

Once a week we make a summary for you with:

  • how many conversations you had that week and how many messages;
  • average sentiment, as a score, and whether it went up, down or stayed the same;
  • how engaged you were, as a score, and the type of session (solo or with your partner);
  • how many of those conversations raised a safety flag, as a number, never what was said;
  • which of five broad areas (communication, intimacy, conflict, fun, trust) scored lowest, picked from that fixed list;
  • roughly how your sessions split between a few voice emotions (anger, sadness, joy, anxiety, neutral).

The summary carries a code instead of your identity. The code is made from your account ID with a secret key that only we hold, so researchers cannot link it to you, but we could. The law therefore still treats it as personal data (pseudonymous data), and so do we.

What is never shared

  • Your messages, journal entries, voice recordings or transcripts.
  • Your name, email address or anything else from your account.
  • Who your partner is, or anything about them.
  • Your payment details, or where you are.

Who can see it

Researchers apply for access and, if we approve them, query the summaries through our research API with a key we can revoke. They agree not to try to identify anyone and to use the data only for the research they applied for.

Stopping

  • Turn Relationship research off in the app under Profile, Privacy. We stop adding summaries straight away.
  • To have your past summaries deleted too, write to privacy@nuune.app; we do it within one month.
  • Deleting your account ends it as well, and your past summaries are deleted with it.

The legal basis is your explicit consent (GDPR Art. 9(2)(a)). More in our Privacy Policy, section 2.12. Questions: privacy@nuune.app.
